Why Biden

BREXIT

If Mr. Biden wins in November, Britain would face a president who opposed Brexit, would look out for the interests of Ireland in a post-Brexit Europe, and would have little motive to prioritize an Anglo-American trade deal. His former boss, President Barack Obama, once warned Britons that if they left the European Union, they would put themselves at the “back of the queue” in any trade talks with the United States. - Mark Landler New York Times

IMMIGRATION

As a descendent of immigrants Biden understands that immigration, including Irish immigration, is the lifeblood of America. For too many years now, on the basis of discriminatory immigration laws, the Irish, who sought a better life in this country, as my father and grandparents once did, have been consigned to being undocumented. Our community was never really aware how many undocumented were in our midst until the recent pandemic erupted. Joe Biden understands their plight and will seek comprehensive immigration reform that will take our Irish immigrant brothers and sisters out of the shadows. - Brian O’Dwyer

GOOD FRIDAY AGREEMENT

Joe Biden is a longtime supporter of peace and equality in Ireland and worked with Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the late John Hume, for that noble cause. It is critically important that the American President support that peace, and Joe is dedicated to protecting the Good Friday Agreement and fiercely opposed to a military border in Ireland. - Ted Smyth

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

What you see is a man who world leaders already know and who understand that our friends and allies will again be treated as friends and that our enemies will again be treated as adversaries.- Kevin O’Malley

As we Irish say, Ni neart go cur le cheile, There’s no strength without unity.

Irish Americans and Americans need Joe Biden to unite America now, more than ever.

Joe Biden's love letter to his Irish roots revealed

by Niall O'Dowd

The presumptive Democratic nominee’s Irish ancestors emigrated from Ireland in the 1800s, and Biden has never shied away from his Irish roots.

Biden, who is thought to be five-eights Irish, said ahead of the official six-day visit that being Irish has “shaped his entire life.”

The former vice president met with then-Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who presented Biden with a hurley and sliotar (hurling ball). Biden said that he wished hurling was played more in the United States and humorously labeled it a  “dangerous game.”

Ex-US Ambassador says Irish America must choose Biden and end the Trump nightmare

by Kevin O'Malley

“I write to you about Joe Biden as my friend, my former boss, and my fellow Irish-American who will lead our beloved country further towards its true destiny— a nation of opportunity, compassion, and respect for one another. Joe Biden is a decent, hard-working, law-abiding, Catholic man who has never forgotten where he came from. There is no “public Joe Biden“ and a secret “private Joe Biden“. The Joe Biden you see during a televised speech or interview is the same Joe Biden I have seen at the breakfast table, riding to a public engagement, or enjoying a few minutes chat at the end of a busy day. He wears his heart on his sleeve and truly, “What you see is what you get.””

U.K. Officials’ New Trump Dilemma: What if He Loses?

by Mark Landler

“It will not be lost on Biden that the last two British prime ministers went out of their way to be nice to and about Trump,” said Peter Westmacott, a former British ambassador to the United States. “He is instinctively comfortable with Brits, but London will have to work on the relationship.”

Why Irish Americans should vote for Joe Biden on November 3

by Ted Symth

Joe Biden is a longtime supporter of peace and equality in Ireland and worked with Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the late John Hume, for that noble cause. It is critically important that the American President support that peace, and Joe is dedicated to protecting the Good Friday Agreement and fiercely opposed to a military border in Ireland.

Joe would also be the first Irish American Catholic to become President since President Kennedy in 1960, something that is long overdue. By voting for Joe Biden on November 3, you would be supporting an Irish American who is the essence of decency, dedicated to protecting family values, good jobs, a public option in healthcare and affordable education.

Why I'm Wide Awake for 'Sleepy Joe'

by Brian O'Dwyer

“This year Americans will be called upon to vote in perhaps the most important presidential election since 1932. As an American the choice is clear, as an Irish American the case is over-whelming.

I am going to vote for my fellow Irish American Joe Biden.

In the spirit of those who came in steerage class to our shores, Joe Biden will fight to fulfill that dream for all Americans, and just as John Kennedy sixty years ago, will stand as a source of great pride for the Irish American community.

On election day in November, I will proudly cast my ballot for Joe Biden.”
