Justice, Peace, and Prosperity

Joe Biden represents the Irish spirit, hard work, and faith that has inspired America through its victories and struggles. As a son of Ireland, Joe Biden is ready to rebuild this nation on a foundation of justice. peace and prosperity for all. Join us.

Brexit

Over the last several years, Ireland has faced a threat from the uncertainty surrounding Brexit. Ireland’s hard-won peace is endangered by Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union and subsequent threats of a hard boarder between Ireland and Northern Ireland. A quarter century after the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, this instability threatens a new generation in Northern Ireland.  We believe that Joe Biden will fight to ensure that peace on the Irish island is not threatened as the UK and EU negotiate a long-lasting agreement on the future of Brexit. American leadership is lacking, yet needed as much now as it was 25 years ago.  Irish Americans for Biden believe that Joe Biden will stand with Speaker
Nancy Pelosi and Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Richard Neal, in their steadfast opposition to any UK/US trade agreement if measures are taken that threaten the Good Friday Agreement. Joe Biden will provide the leadership that is needed to preserve the prosperity that the Agreement provides.

Continuing Funding for the International Fund for Ireland

Since the 1990s, the United States has reaffirmed its continued commitment to a strong and peaceful society on the island of Ireland. The United States has proudly joined our global partners in supporting the work of the International Fund for Ireland as part of our global aid. The International Fund for Ireland is an independent organization that supports economic regeneration and social development projects in areas most affected by the decades of violence in Northern Ireland. Since its inception in 1986, IFI’s projects have made vital contributions to improving the physical and economic infrastructure in some of the area’s most vulnerable communities. With the fallout of Brexit not fully known and the possibility of a hard border reemerging, now is the time to double down on this commitment rather than ignore the challenge.

Preserving the Good Friday Agreement & Ongoing Support for Peace

Prior to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, Northern Ireland suffered from decades of violence between the British Army and both Irish Republican and British Loyalist paramilitaries. The Irish Americans for Biden believe that American involvement in the Irish Peace Process remains one of the best successes of modern U.S. Foreign Policy. We believe that in order to ensure the integrity of the agreement, and ongoing peace, the U.S. must maintain our active involvement in sustaining the peace.

Supporting Security at Home and Abroad

We believe that Ireland’s election to a two-year seat on the United Nations’ Security Council presents an opportunity for Ireland to work with a President Biden to share Ireland’s long history of building peace and creating prosperity. We believe that a Biden Administration will reassert America’s role, alongside our strong allies like Ireland, as an international leader in creating a stronger, more secure, and peaceful world. Americans at home will experience less conflict and a  significantly more robust battle against current and future global health crises.

Fixing a Broken Immigration System

Irish Americans for Biden proudly celebrates our nation’s immigrant tradition. We believe that until we are able to fix our broken immigration system, our country will be unable to reach its full potential. We celebrate the legacy of Irish Immigrants who have helped build the United States, and we see immigration as a source of strength for our nation. Irish Americans for Biden advocate for and stand in solidarity with tens of thousands of undocumented Irish and the 11 Million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States who lack any real options to earn a pathway to citizenship.

Standing with Our Brothers and Sisters in the Labor Movement

As James Connolly said, “the cause of labor is the cause of Ireland, the cause of Ireland is the cause of labor.” The Irish Americans for Biden celebrate the proud tradition and unbreakable bond between the Irish American community and the labor movement. We support candidates who protect the rights of workers to organize, bargain collectively, and expand the union density throughout the country.

Trade

We believe that Joe Biden will promote the mutually beneficial economic relationship between Ireland and the U.S. The two countries now engage in extensive trade and investment with U.S. companies finding a trusted partner in Ireland. Shared economic values, access to talent and to the expansive European Single Market, make Ireland a particularly attractive business environment. In 2019, the United States invested $446 billion into Ireland with over 700 companies located there and over 155,000 people employed. Despite its comparably modest size, Ireland was the ninth largest foreign direct investor in the United States. Ireland invested $116 billion in the U.S. market, with over 800 Irish companies employing over 100,000 people Joe Biden understands that Ireland is a vital part of the transatlantic bridge between the U.S. and the E.U. and a strategic partner for America.
